‘Ateş, Su, Toprak, Taht.’ marks a turning point in the socio-cultural landscape of a place. The storytelling is rich, dense and familiar. Ideas are presented theatrically and the lyrics inspire a sense of empowerment, a coming together and self-reflection. The alienating built environment, the loss of collective memory and a need for belonging are presented as issues beyond nostalgia. The ambient soundscapes are a curation of textural samples from improvised recording sessions across Istanbul, Melbourne & Bremen. Although this body of work stands boldly on its own, it feels like a complementary chapter to DKSBB.
